A student from Minnesota School of Business-Blaine (MSB) who attended the MobCon mobile application software development conference earlier this month became the poster child for demonstrating exactly why attending industry conferences is important for students—he landed a job interview with a national information technology firm.

Chris Schouten, a student pursuing his Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, recently attended MobCon along with IT program chair John Daley. MobCon presents sessions highlighting the state-of-the-art in mobile app development for both Android and Apple (iOS) platforms, such as iPad®.

Schouten’s talents were brought to the attention of a representative from Robert Half Technology, Inc., resulting in a request for interview. A recruiting manager followed up with Daley and will meet with Schouten, Daley, and Career Services department personnel at the MSB-Blaine campus.

Software developers capable of programming in Java on Android devices are in a highly desirable situation, according to presenters at MobCon, who indicated that there are currently more jobs than people qualified to take them.

Minnesota School of Business and Globe University were the only colleges sponsoring the 2013 MobCon conference, asserting its leadership in mobile application development education. MSB and Globe students write programs that run on Android operating system devices in their very first software development class, making MSB/Globe IT program students highly desirable candidates in the real world.
